Fluid Delivery Control: Flow Rate versus Pressure
|
Using the PneuWave Pump, fluid delivery by flow rate control was compared to fluid delivery by pressure control. When the pressure was changed in one of the three flowing streams (green liquid), the affects on the other two unchanging streams (red and clear liquids) were examined. It was found that fluid delivery by pressure control caused flow rate variations in the red and clear liquid streams, even though pressure remained constant. In contrast, when fluid delivery was controlled by flow rate and the flow rate was changed in the green liquid stream, both the flow rate and the pressure remained constant for the red and clear liquids. These results indicate the preferred means of fluid delivery control is by flow rate.

Flow Rate Control ModeThis video screen capture, shows the results from flow rate control mode. When one flow channel (green) was increased, the affects on the other two channels (red and clear) were minimal.

Pressure Control ModeThis video screen capture, shows the results from pressure control mode. When one flow channel (green) was increased, the flow rates of the other two channels (red and clear) changed dramatically.
